Temporary Admission: 24 months for a private yacht in Great Britain

A private yacht registered outside the United Kingdom may stay for up to 24 months in Great Britain under Temporary Admission, free of import VAT and duty.

Since 16 July 2025, a private yacht registered outside the United Kingdom, in the name of a person established outside it and used by a non-UK resident, may stay for up to 24 months in Great Britain under Temporary Admission, without paying import VAT or duty. The period in Northern Ireland remains 18 months.

Temporary Admission is claimed on arrival without a declaration. Overhaul or refit of a yacht under Temporary Admission needs Inward Processing Relief, which is arranged before work starts.

The UK period is separate from EU Temporary Admission, and days in the United Kingdom do not count towards the Schengen allowance for crew and guests. We confirm the position for your yacht before you arrive.
